Summary: The CCO directs the organization’s workforce in all compliance matters. As a result, this position has direct access to the Board of Directors for the purpose of advising and making recommendations to the Board about regulatory compliance issues and is the primary corporate resource for Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement information acting as a consultative resource for reimbursement and regulatory issues. The CCO maintains workforce compliance with all applicable federal and state rules, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Essential Functions:
  1. Advises leadership and the workforce in all regulatory compliance through education related to a broad spectrum of compliance-related topics (e.g., Fraud and Abuse laws, Safe Medical Devices Act, mandated reporting, HIPAA, etc.)  
  2. Maintains a current working knowledge of Federal and State regulations and policies as they affect the organization through routine review of various Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) manuals, Federal Register notices, applicable government and/or industry related internet information sites, and State Medical Board regulations.
  3. Provides education and training about actual, proposed, or pending legislation and regulations that affect operations and identifying operational obstacles to compliance, working with leadership to identify and implement solutions.
  4. Provides compliance information to the Board of Directors on compliance-related matters as appropriate or whenever called to do so.
  5. Maintains the effectiveness of the Corporate Compliance Program through creation and revision of applicable policies (serves as ex-officio to The Professional Standards Committee); ensures appropriate routine and focused internal audits of policy/procedure adherence and coordinates audits generated by external resources; coordinates training programs that focus on the elements of the Compliance Program; provides screening of Corporate Charitable Contribution requests.
  6. Serves as the primary corporate resource for Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement information by maintaining and communicating knowledge of payer claim submission guidelines and coverage requirements and analyzing government and/or public policy and alerting the organization to compliance trends and risks.
  7. Manages Product and Drug recall efforts by coordinating with providers and other leaders to ensure patient safety.
  8. Maintains the corporate compliance hotline and works with other leaders as appropriate to investigate and respond to compliance concerns.
  9. Serves as the HIPAA Privacy Officer by maintaining/updating all HIPAA Privacy Policies and the organizations Notice of Privacy Practices (NPP), responding to privacy complaints, performing privacy investigations and associated Risk Assessments, reviewing requests for amendments ensuring all workforce are educated on HIPAA privacy specific to their role, meeting all HIPAA reporting requirements, staying current about changes to State and Federal HIPAA regulation, working collaboratively with the HIPAA Security Officer and leading the organizational response to both privacy and security breaches.

Education, licensure and experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  2. Healthcare Compliance Certification (CHC, CHPC, CPCO, etc.)
  3. Five or more years of experience in health care corporate compliance
  4. Background in Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement and fraud and abuse laws

  4. Decisive and exercises good judgment under pressure
  5. Confidentiality

Work Environment:

 Exposed to patient and environmental conditions, and some unpleasant sights, smells and contagious diseases.
