Though I am not new to OMGMA I am new to the ACMPE Forum Rep position this year. ACMPE Forum Rep is Oregon’s link to national MGMA for their certification programs – and boy do I have some huge shoes to fill. Historically we’ve had very motivated folks here in Oregon seriously involved with spreading the ACMPE word in our local management community. They made sure everyone knew about certification and created study groups set up to help those of us new to clinic administration get through it. I was already a state and national member but focusing on the CMPE program and ultimately earning my Fellowship absolutely made me more aware of all OMGMA and MGMA have to offer. Once I achieved CMPE and Fellowship in 2009, I knew how important mentorship was to me during the certification process so I wanted to “pay it forward”. I’ve been actively involved at both the state and national level ever since.
As many of you know, 2018 marks a huge transition to both certification programs with new requirements going into effect January 1 2019. I’m excited to help folks who want to push through this year before the new criteria starts.
Earning your CMPE and/or FACMPE credentials is a great way to get started building your peer network of experts. Things change so rapidly in healthcare and I don’t see it slowing down much. You can’t know everything and the old adage “It’s not what you know but WHO you know” will serve you best as you grow in your career. Since you can’t do it all, find a group of people and work together to get what you need. Remember, you are an expert at some things in practice management so other peer network members need you, too.
